Thursday afternoon, Julien left me with my bummed foot at the Selva Cafe to do some photo editing while he went running around Mexico City to find at least one of the murals Diego had painted in el DF. Some famous ones include The History of Mexico in the National Palace or El hombre controlador del universo in the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The mural Julien sought out is called Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central (Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central). The scene depicts a semi-fantastical moment in the nearby Alameda park and was originally painted on the wall the Hotel Prado in Mexico City from 1946-1947. The earthquake that shook Mexico City in 1985 destroyed the hotel and part of the mural, the latter of which has been restored, moved to the western end of the Alameda park, and a museum built to house it.
Julien’s walk through the Alameda Central, ending at the Bellas Artes. (traversée de l’Alameda Central)
Julien and the chapulines, (grasshoppers that are not uncommon to find fried and sprinkled atop guacamole)

Did you have any chapulines? I think it is the same a sopopos… My paternal grandmother used to serve them at her house… I don’t remember eating any of these “sompopos” huge ant looking insects… Sometimes she gathered them, but you could also buy them at the local market.
