Safety procedure After the second mini-quake we felt in Xela (estimated to be about 5.5 by our host-father), I asked the family if there were any sort of safety procedure or plan in place should a substantial earthquake hit. I was assured that because our humble abode was just one floor and made of wood (not like those stiff stone buildings all across the city), it was as if we were in cardboard box, flexible to move back and forth should an earthquake hit, and we would be perfectly safe in the living room. This was all well and good, but I certainly gave a suspicious eye to the the Evangelical church next door that, during our stay, added an additional floor to their bulky concrete edifice already towering over our house.
