We found Chileans in northern Chile do not like Santiago. Though living in a hot desert themselves, they claim the concrete of the capital radiates heat well after the sun goes down, and with the lack of breeze, it is impossible to feel comfortable. In the south, news of our recent two-week stay in Santiago was met with a grimace and disgusted sound. There is no green, in Santiago, no rain to clear out the smog. People are too busy. For our part, we really enjoyed Santiago, the busyness of a big city with green space all the same, museums a-plenty, and seemingly limitless food options.
