Back in Santiago we hopped on another walking tour, this one taking us through the fish and fruit markets and the expansive General Cemetery.
The impressive wrought-iron structure was brought over piece by piece from England in the 19th century.
Cats make sure rodents steer clear of the fruit in La Vega Central market, a huge fruit market that sprawls over six city blocks.
Cementerio General, covering an area of over 200 football fields, has about two million residents.

Las Tres Marรญas; in Chile, anything that comes in threes is named “The Three Marys”: Orion’s belt, nondescript desert rock-formations, three ladies hanging out, etc.
Andrea’s last day we headed south to the Viรฑa Concha y Toro for a vineyard tour and wine tasting.
Later that evening, I realized I had lost one of my earrings sometime in the afternoon. It was quite amusing to look back at pictures throughout the day to try to find the moment I may have lost it. Here I’m about to enjoy our first wine, already one earring lighter.

A wine send-off! Hours later Andrea boarded her flight back to Wisconsin. Salud!

The walking tour through the fish and fruit markets reminded me of Gloria and her love for sea food… Genevieve Netzer loved the smell of fish, she would breath in the scent at the fish markets.
The fruits and vegetables are so colorful and so well displayed.
At the cemetery I find it a bit disturbing to see the tree growing out of the cross.

Supermarkets, not quite yet the spirit of the locals. They love their market. It holds a very important place in the city and in their hearts. It would be very sad to see this disappear.

I’m tempted to say Chilean, but knowing that the vines originally come from France ๐ I was quite frankly amazed by Chilean and Argentinian wines.
